Last season, head coach Latrell Scott's first at the helm, NSU came out of the gates 0-and-3 - on their way to a 4-and-7 season.

"When you start off 0-and-3 a year ago, and you have the opportunity to go 1-and-0 - it's something you want to do," Scott told News 3. "Going into the Hampton game last year 0-and-3, you really don't know how good of a football team you are."

"Starting off 1-and-0, you only get one chance to do it a season," quarterback Greg Hankerson said. "We want to show guys we can win games."

In 2015, the Spartans played their first three games on the road: at Rutgers, at Old Dominion and at Marshall.
