PORTSMOUTH, Va. - A Portsmouth middle school student spent one of his last few days of summer vacation giving back to others.

Nikolas Allgood, a rising 8th grader at Cradock Middle School, decided to use his own money to make toiletry bags for the homeless.

With money he had saved up from his birthday and Christmas, he purchased shampoo, deodorant and other supplies to make up about 30 bags.

Wednesday afternoon he went to two locations to pass them out, starting off near the Food Lion on London Blvd.

From there, he went nearby to the Oasis Social Ministry where he passed out the rest of the bags.

The one disappointment he had at the end of the day - that he didn't have enough bags for everyone who wanted one.

Nik said it was a Pokémon Go video on YouTube that inspired him recently.  At the end of the clip, people in the video passed out food to the homeless.

Nik says he hopes his act inspires others to take action as well.
