NORFOLK, Va. – School officials from Old Dominion and Norfolk State are monitoring weather conditions as they determine whether or not Saturday’s college football season openers can be played as scheduled in Norfolk.

ODU hosts Hampton at 6pm Saturday. Norfolk State welcomes Elizabeth City State to Dick Price Stadium Saturday, as well. However, Hurricane Hermine could impact both of those games.

Athletics department officials from ODU tell News 3 they expect to make a final determination on the status of Saturday’s game by Noon Friday. NSU officials expect to make a call by Friday morning, Noon at the latest, after consulting with MEAC and ECSU officials .

Norfolk State and Old Dominion tell News 3 they have “a little more time to work with” in regard to making a decision, due to the opponent not having to travel very far.

“Other alternatives to playing Saturday are being discussed, including potentially moving the game to Sunday,” NSU said in a statement.
