Hermine causes delays, cancellations for some weekend events

With Tropical Storm Hermine expected to bring heavy rain and strong winds to our area, a number of events planned for this weekend have been moved indoors, postponed or cancelled.  Keep checking back for updates.

Virginia Beach

  • American Music Festival
    • Friday - Free performances by Chris Janson and Kevin MaC on 24th Street Stage will begin at 7 p.m.  All other AMF shows scheduled to take place Friday are cancelled.
    • Saturday - 5th St. Main Stage beach concerts featuring UB40, The Wallflowers and Cracker are being moved inside the Virginia Beach Convention Center at 1000 19th Street.  All other Saturday concerts along the oceanfront are cancelled.
    • Sunday - the 5th Street Main Stage concert featuring Culture Club, The Romantics and Groves has been moved into Virginia Beach Convention Center.  Doors open Sunday at 5 p.m. and the show begins at 6:30.  Sunday's scheduled free concerts will be determined Saturday.
  • Rock 'n' Roll Race - Saturday's Mile on the Sand has been cancelled.  Right now, Sunday's Rock 'n' Roll Virginia Beach Half Marathon and 5k will proceed as planned.
  • Party at the Pier - The concert that was supposed to take place Friday night at the Little Island Park and Fishing Pier is cancelled and is not being rescheduled at this point.

Norfolk

  • Old Dominion University's football game against Hampton University is being postponed from Saturday to Sunday at 3:30 p.m.
  • Norfolk State University's football game against Elizabeth City State has been postponed to Sunday at 6 p.m.   Additional information on both games can be found here.
  • Friday night's 'First Fridays Granby Street Party' cancelled

Hampton

  • Block Party: Dave Cynar with Crazy X that was supposed to be held Saturday is cancelled

Portsmouth

  • The Marcolivia concert scheduled for Saturday evening at the Main Library has been postponed to November 12 at 1 p.m.

Manteo

  • First Friday celebration - postponed to September 16th

Suffolk

  • The Suffolk Farmer's Market that was supposed to be held Saturday has been cancelled.
  • The Great Dismal Swamp Safari that was scheduled for Saturday has been cancelled.  Right now, the safari on Sunday is still scheduled to take place.

Newport News

  • CNU versus Kean University football game has been rescheduled.  It will now take place at 1 p.m. Sunday.
