16-year-old arrested for stabbing after basketball game in Isle of Wight

ISLE OF WIGHT Co., Va. – A teenager was arrested Monday for the stabbing of another teenager after an altercation during a basketball game.

Deputies were called to the 14000 block of Bartlett Circle around 7 p.m. on a report of a stabbing.

When a deputy arrived on scene, a 15-year-old boy was being treated for a stab wound on his leg by an off duty Virginia State Police Trooper.

The investigation into the incident revealed that the 15-year-old victim was playing basketball with a 16-year-old boy who lived in the same area.

According to deputies, during the basketball game an altercation took place and the 16-year-old went home and returned with two kitchen knives. A second altercation took place and the 16-year-old stabbed the 15-year-old in the leg.

The victim was taken to Riverside Regional Medical center.

The suspect was charged with malicious wounding and transported to Chesapeake Juvenile Services, pending a custody hearing by the Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court.

The Isle of Wight County Sheriff’s Office thanks the state trooper who rendered first aid, keeping the injury from being worse than it was.
