NORFOLK, Va. – Police are searching for a man they say led officers on a chase that ended in a crash and then ran from the scene.

According to Virginia State Police, troopers stopped to assist Hampton Police on a routine traffic stop on a silver Chevrolet Impala with unknown registration.

The driver sped off during the traffic stop and headed eastbound on I-64.

Hampton Police and State Police chased the vehicle into Norfolk where they  were able to stop and box in the vehicle.

As the trooper tried to approach the vehicle, the driver again took off and police pursued.

The driver took the Granby Street exit towards Terminal Boulevard and lost control, crashing into the guardrail.

The driver and passenger both exited the vehicle. The driver fled the scene and the passenger surrendered to State Police.

No one was injured during the pursuit and crash.

The passenger was taken into custody and police continue to search for the driver.

State Police say drugs and drug paraphernalia were found inside the car.
