CHESAPEAKE, Va. – Repair work on the Gilmerton Bridge in Chesapeake has finished early and the span is back open to normal traffic.

The Chesapeake Public Works Department shared the news about the repairs being finished early just after 9 p.m. Sunday night.

In late June, the bridge became stuck in the open position due to a counterweight being out of alignment and jammed against the bridge.

Officials were able to make temporary repairs to get traffic flowing again, but had to wait to make final repairs until replacement parts could be fabricated.

All repair work is now finished and the bridge has resumed it’s normal lift schedule.
