CHESAPEAKE, Va. - A sewer main break in the 200 block of Battlefield Blvd. caused traffic pattern changes Monday night through Tuesday morning.

Battlefield Blvd. was closed from Kempsville Rd. to the Great Bridge Bridge in both directions at 8 p.m. Monday.

Hampton Roads Sanitation District staff determined the problem was corroded bolts that held a valve cap in place on the 20-inch cast iron force main. Crews worked through the night to complete the repair and the roadway was reopened by 8 a.m. Tuesday.

The pavement above the sewer main break still needs to be filled in. Crews are waiting for a break in the weather to complete the work so in the meantime a metal plate has been placed over the space and driver are urged to travel with caution.
