NORFOLK, Va. – A Norfolk city employee was treated at the hospital after being injured by a garbage truck Friday morning.
Norfolk Police dispatchers said the worker’s leg was run over by the truck at South Lakeland Drive and Irwin Drive around 8:15 a.m.
The worker’s foot and ankle were injured.
He was taken to hospital where he is recovering.
According to Trista Fayton with Norfolk Public Works, the worker was conducting normal operations but was temporarily distracted.
Fayton said Waste Collection is the 5th most dangerous occupation in the U.S.
