VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Police. Fire and EMS responded to the Oceanfront at 2:12 p.m. on Monday.
According to police, they pulled one man from the water near 12th Street.
Police say the person drowned after not being able to swim to shore.
Citizens were in the water trying to help the man when officials arrived.
The man was pulled from the water and transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
He was later identified as 52-year-old Eddie Van Peake of Turtle Creek, Pennsylvania.
