ISLE OF WIGHT Co., Va. – Virginia State Police responded to a vehicle accident Monday afternoon that resulted in a fatality.
At about 2:40 p.m. a Dodge Dart driven by 22-year-old Danielle Bess was stopped at the intersection of Jenkins Mill Road and Carsville Hwy.
Bess pulled out to make a left turn in front of a Dodge Dakota, driven by 69-year-old Lessly Artis, who was traveling East on Carsville Rd.
Artis struck Bess and he lost control of the vehicle, causing him to run off the roadway.
Both drivers were not wearing their seat belts and were transported to local hospitals.
Artis was transported to Norfolk Sentara Hospital where he died on Tuesday morning from his injuries.
Bess suffered non-life threatening injuries and was charged with failure to yield the right of way.
Alcohol was not a contributing factor in this incident.
