Greenbrier Mall closes on Thanksgiving Day to allow employees time with family

CHESAPEAKE, Va. – Greenbrier Mall will be closed on Thanksgiving Day this year.

CBL & Associates Properties, Inc.,owner of the mall, announced on Wednesday that the shopping center is closed because they want to allow employees time to spend with family and friends.

The company didn’t just close Greenbrier Mall, they closed all of their 89 market-dominant regional shopping centers.

Greenbrier’s closing comes after The Mall of America also recently announced they would be closed on Thanksgiving.

The company also wants to “bring back the excitement of Black Friday shopping as the true start of the holiday shopping season,” said Stephen Lebovitz, President and CEO, CBL & Associates Properties, Inc.

The mall will reopen at 6 a.m. on Black Friday, November 25.

Department stores, movie theaters, and retailers with exterior mall entrances will have the option to open their stores on Thanksgiving Day.

Access to Greenbrier Mall common areas will be restricted until 6 a.m. on Friday.
