11 homes evacuated due to Norfolk natural gas leak

NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk Fire-Rescue crews were on the scene of a natural gas leak in the 3000 block of Verdun Avenue.

Eleven homes were evacuated, causing 15 residents to be sheltered at Fire Station 11 on Verdun Avenue.

Virginia Natural Gas was also at the scene.

Crews worked for several hours to fix the leak. One firefighter was taken to the hospital with a non-life threatening injury.

As of 4 p.m., the leak has been secured and residents are allowed to go back into their homes.
