AVON, N.C. – The body of a 17-year-old was found near the Avon Fishing Pier Sunday night.
According to Chicamacomico Bank Water Rescue, the body of Jimmy Bittner, of Kentucky, was located on the northside of the pier.
Bittner went missing on Thursday when he and a friend were swimming in the ocean and got caught in a rip current.
Bittner’s friend made it to shore but when rescue units arrived, they could not locate Bittner.
His cause of death was listed as drowning.
