South Carolina woman found in container said she saw kidnapper shoot her boyfriend

WOODRUFF, S.C. — The missing South Carolina woman found alive inside a storage container told investigators she watched the kidnapper shoot her boyfriend, who has been missing since the couple disappeared in late August, according to the Greenville News.

A body was recovered Friday on the Woodruff, South Carolina, property belonging to kidnapping suspect Todd Kohlhepp, a spokesman for Seventh Circuit Solicitor’s Office said. This is the same property where Kala Brown was found alive on Thursday morning.

Brown went missing with her boyfriend,  32-year-old Charlie Carver, both of Anderson County. Solicitor’s spokesman Murray Glenn would not specify whether the body recovered Friday was a man or a woman and referred all questions to the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office.

“It’s possible that it is the work of a serial killer,” Spartanburg County Sheriff Chuck  Wright said Friday. “It’s a deceased person. There could be more.”

Wright said that deputies found 30-year-old Kala Brown “chained like a dog” Thursday inside a large metal container after they heard her banging on the walls, according to WYFF. Authorities believe she had been kept in the container for the last two months.

Brown said she had been chained by the neck inside the container, and said she was given food regularly.

Police arrested Kohlhepp, the registered owner of the Wofford Road property, on Thursday.

Kohlhepp, a registered sex offender, was convicted of a kidnapping in Arizona when he was 16 years old, according to South Carolina officials.

Multiple charges are pending.
