Car break-in suspects lead Chesapeake Police on chase into Norfolk

CHESAPEAKE, Va. – Several people suspected of breaking into vehicles in the Great Bridge area of Chesapeake led police on a chase into Norfolk that eventually ended in a crash early Tuesday.

Chesapeake Police responded to Las Gaviotas Boulevard just before 1 a.m. after receiving reports of several people breaking into a vehicle.

Police spotted the suspect vehicles on Battlefield Boulevard and Albemarle Drive at 1 a.m. and activated emergency lights in an attempt to stop the vehicles.

Both vehicles failed to stop and the pursuit moved onto the 168 bypass.

One of the vehicles exited the interstate at Poindexter Street and the other, an Acura SUV, continued on I-464 into Norfolk. The Acura exited the interstate at State Street and lost control, rolling the vehicle once.

Two black males exited the vehicle and ran away. Officers were unable to locate the men.

Police say the Acura SUV was stolen from Chesapeake some time during the evening of November 14.

The other vehicle that exited at Poindexter Street, made a U-turn and got back onto I-464 and into Norfolk. Chesapeake Police officers lost sight of that vehicle at 1:10 a.m. on Tidewater Drive.

No further information was immediately available.
