and last updated

Tropical Depression Sixteen forms in the southwestern Caribbean Sea.

TD16 has been nearly stationary for the past several hours, and little movement is expected today. A slow motion toward the west is expected to begin on Tuesday.

Maximum sustained winds are near 35 mph with higher gusts. Slow strengthening is forecast during the next 48 hours, and the depression is expected to become a tropical storm later today or tonight. If it becomes a Tropical Storm, it would get the name “Otto”. A landfall in Nicaragua and/or Costa Rica is expected by late Thursday.
