Elizabeth City woman sentenced to 11 years in prison for cocaine and marijuana conspiracy

RALEIGH, N.C. – An Elizabeth City woman was sentenced on November 10 for cocaine and marijuana conspiracy.

Shirita Marie James, 37, was arrested along with her husband, Shawn Christopher Elliott, and her brother, William Thomas James, on June 20, 2011.

The group attempted to buy 1 kilogram and 100 pounds of marijuana for $106,000 from a confidential informant.

Elliott was sentenced in 2013 to 70 months in prison followed by 8 years of supervised release.

William James was sentenced in 2013 to 71 months in prison.

Shirita James was not federally charged in 2011 but was arrested again on November 10, 2015 in Lewiston-Woodville, N.C. when she was delivering 498 grams of cocaine to a co-conspirator. The investigation revealed that between June 20, 2011, and November 10, 2015, James was responsible for conspiring to distribute approximately 16 kilograms of cocaine and 45 kilograms of marijuana.

James pled guilty on July 19 and was sentenced on November 10 to 135 months in prison and 5 years of supervised release for conspiring to distribute and possess with the intent to distribute five kilograms or more of cocaine and a quantity of marijuana.
