Taxi driver robbed at gunpoint in Newport News

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - A taxi driver was robbed at gunpoint by several men while waiting to pick up a fare in the 900 block of Taylor Avenue.

It happened on December 3 between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m.

According to police, one man opened the driver's side rear door pointing a gun at the driver. At the same time, another man with a gun opened the right rear door and entered the taxi.

The suspects demanded money from the driver, who complied. The men also took the driver's phone and belongings from the trunk.

One suspect is described as a black male in a dark hoodie. He was wearing a gold bracelet on his right hand and held a small dark colored handgun.

The suspect is described as a black male wearing a tan colored hoodie and dark sweatpants with stripes on one leg. He also had a handgun.

Police are continuing to investigate the situation.
