Portsmouth elementary school temporarily locked down after man shot nearby

PORTSMOUTH, Va. - Detectives are investigating a shooting that happened on Wednesday afternoon.

Hodges Manor Elementary School was on lockdown because of the shooting that was under 400 feet away from the building. Police say parents were notified of the lockdown.

Students were released about 15 minutes later than their regular time, police said.school

Police Dispatch got a call about the incident at Deal Dr. and Cherokee Rd., at 2:07 p.m.

The male victim was shot in the elbow, according to police.

His injuries are non-life threatening.

Police say there is no suspect information at this time.
