VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Two students from Kempsville High School were arrested after a gun was brought to school.

According to Virginia Beach City Public School officials, another student saw what was believed to be a weapon and immediately reported it to school staff.

One student was arrested for possession of a handgun at school. A second student who handled the gun was also arrested.

School officials say appropriate discipline action was taken.

“As a school leader, you hope your school community never has to face a situation where there is a weapon on your campus,” said Superintendent Dr. Aaron Spence. “We stress to our students every day the importance of safety and reporting anything that seems out of the ordinary. In this instance, a student who had the courage to step forward allowed us to work with police and resolve the matter quickly and safely. I could not be more proud of this student.”
