Portsmouth fire crews resuscitate two dogs saved from burning home

PORTSMOUTH, Va. – Two dogs were resuscitated by fire crews after being rescued from a Portsmouth home on fire on Thursday.

Fire crews were called to the 200 block of Derby Road around 12:30 p.m. after receiving reports of fire coming from the house.

When crews arrived, the reported a large fire coming from the roof of the single-story home.

Units searched the home and found the two dogs inside. Both dogs were resuscitated and appear to be doing okay.

Crews were able to get the fire under control in about 25 minutes.

The residents were not home at the time of the fire.

The fire caused substantial damage to the home and it has been deemed unsafe to live in.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
