YORKTOWN, Va. - The York-Poquoson Sheriff's Office is investigating an armed robbery from a person that was walking home from the gym Monday night.
It occurred in the 2000 block of Piccadilly Loop around 7:30 p.m.
Authorities said the male victim reported he was walking back from the gym at Washington Square when he was approached from behind by a black male carrying a handgun.
The victim told News 3 he was walking back to his apartment in Grafton Square from Anytime Fitness, through a open, wooded area, just like he does three to four times a week.
He said he heard someone yell, "hey you," and thought they wanted directions. Instead, it was a man pointing a gun at him.
The suspect demanded money but the victim did not have any. The suspect took the victim's cell phone and told the victim to run.
"I thought if I made the slightest movement, I was done," he said. "It was terrifying."
The victim was not injured.
The suspect was wearing a gray sweatshirt. He was approximately 5'1", 200 pounds, and was described as a light-skinned, black male.
