VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -A barge started to deconstruct the Lynnhaven Fishing Pier on Thursday.
Co-owner of Lynnhaven Fishing Pier, Hoyt Duff, announced that the family owned and operated business would close back on November 5, 2017.
It’s been a local landmark for residents, families and tourists since 1956 and has been sold to Westminster-Canterbury.
“We had damage to the pier from the hurricane last fall, that’s about $40,000 that we didn’t have to spend.” he said.
Duff says they’ve been on a payment plan, but since hurricane Isabel hit in 2003, things have been tough financially.
“Boom–that’s, you know, half of a million dollars in repairs and we lost half the season because of that.”
Duff made the announcement on Nextdoor on October 6, 2017.
Lynnhaven Fish House, the restaurant on the pier, says they will not close.
