Newport News school bus involved in crash

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – A Newport News school bus was involved in a crash with three other vehicles at Jefferson Avenue and City Center Boulevard on Wednesday evening.

The call came in at 5:37 p.m.

Police say a Nissan Sentra driven by a 55-year-old Barbara Daniels, was making a right turn onto Jefferson Avenue that caused another Nissan sedan driven by a 29-year-old Newport News woman to collide the the school bus.

The 56-year old bus driver swerved and crossed the median into oncoming traffic, colliding with a Toyota sedan.

There were no students on the bus.

However, the driver of the Toyota had to be extricated from the car by Newport News Fire Department personnel and was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Daniels was ultimately issued a summons for reckless driving.
