NORFOLK, Va. — The Norfolk Police Department confirmed that a barricade situation in the 8700 block of Commodore Drive Saturday was part of an investigation into a shooting that happened in the city on Friday.

The shooting that led to Saturday’s barricade situation was in the 100 block of W. Ocean Avenue around 7 p.m.

When officers arrived, they found an adult man laying outside with life-threatening gunshot wounds. Medics pronounced the victim, later identified as 29-year-old Ernesto W. Crespo, dead at the scene.

The preliminary investigation led police to the 8700 block of Commodore Drive where a car matching the description of the suspects’ car was found. The investigation further revealed the owner of the car, 22-year-old Robert J. Dabney, was inside the home.

According to NPD, officers attempted to make contact with the man inside the house. After being unsuccessful with these attempts, the suspect was found dead inside the residence. His body will be transported to The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for the exact cause of death.

Detectives have not released a motive or the circumstances surrounding this incident and ask for anyone with information to call the Norfolk Crime Line 1-888-LOCK-U-UP or submit a tip through the P3Tips mobile app.
