Great American Picnic & Fireworks
The city of Norfolk is hosting its "Great American Picnic' at Town Point Park on Thursday. From 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., you can enjoy live music, hot dogs and hamburgers. The Navy rock band and Fleet Forces Band will play at 6:30 p.m. and 8 p.m., and there will be a fireworks show at 9:30 p.m. It is completely free and open to everyone.
Stars and Stripes Celebration
Virginia Beach's Stars and Stripes Celebration kicks off at 7 p.m. on Tuesday. There will be live entertainment at the 17th, 24th and 31st Street parks. Fireworks are set to light up the sky at 9:30 p.m. It is free to attend, but keep in ind that pets are not allowed unless certified.
Yorktown Fourth of July Celebration
If you are near the Colonial Capitol this Independence Day, you can swing by York County's celebration. All day long they are hosting patriotic festivities, from a parade to a fifes and drums performance. Fireworks are set to light up over the York River at 9:15 pm.
‘Beyond Van Gogh’ Immersive Experience
Starting this Thursday, you can take a trip through art history. The Beyond Van Gogh experience is coming to the Virginia Beach Convention Center. For $50 a ticket, you can immerse yourself in Van Gogh's most famous artwork. The exhibit will be up until September 2.
Destination: Dinosaurs!
You can take a trip to prehistoric times with Destination Dinosaur in Newport News. The popular exhibit is back at the Virginia Living Museum. You and the family can take a trip through history with eight animatronic dinos and several living fossils. You have until September to see the exhibit.
Summer Nights at Busch Gardens
Summer Nights are back at Busch Gardens! Until August, parkgoers get to experience Busch Gardens after dark with light-up coasters, fireworks and a concert series that will feature Flo Rida and other artists. On top of that, all members ages 21 and over will get a free beer, and non-members can get beer for just 50 cents.
Sunset on the River Concert Series
Norfolk's Sunset on the River concert series is continuing at the Hermitage Museum. Good Shot Judy, a Virginia-based swing band, will perform on Thursday. There will be food trucks, drinks and a whole lot more available to attendees. Tickets for non-members will be $15 dollars, and members and kids under 10 get in for free.
"The Lorax" at Paradise Creek Nature Park
Are you looking to enjoy a movie night with the kids? The City of Portsmouth is showing The Lorax at Paradise Creek Nature Rark this Friday. The movie will begin at 5:15 p.m. Popcorn will be made available and tickets are just $10.
Smokin' Grass Bluegrass & BBQ Festival
Down in the Outer Banks this weekend, bluegrass is coming to Manteo! On Saturday, you can head to the Roanoke Island Festival Park for the Smokin' Grass Bluegrass & BBQ Festival. There will be several bluegrass bands playing throughout the day, along with food from local catering companies. Tickets for the festival start at $55.
First Friday Concert
July is officially here and we are approaching the first Friday of the month, when Portsmouth's Art and Cultural Center hosts its monthly "First Friday" Concert in the courtyard. This Friday's concert will feature Allen Hudson and the Halfmoons. It starts at 5 p.m. and is free to the public.
Norfolk Taco Festival
Get ready to come hungry! The Norfolk Taco Festival is back at the Waterside District this weekend. On both Saturday and Sunday, you can try 25 different taco and food vendors. We are told there will also be drinks, wrestling, axe throwing and live music. Tickets start at $15.
The World's Oldest Ham's 121st Birthday
You have the chance to celebrate one of Virginia's favorite relics! The world's oldest edible ham is turning 121 years old. The folks at the Isle of Wight County Museum are celebrating with cake and mocktails this Saturday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. There will also be karaoke to serenade the old ham for his birthday.
