Clean Off Your Desk Day

New year, new you, new desk? Jan. 9 is National Clean Off Your Desk Day. It's something that can easily become cluttered throughout the year. One study found a desk could have 400 more germs than a toilet seat. To start the new year off on a good foot, you can use the day to de-clutter your workspace, at the office, or at home.

Chesapeake Planetarium’s “Stargazing”
How about exploring outer space? You can take the family to the Chesapeake Planetarium this Thursday for its 'Stargazing' event. Every Thursday this month, you can learn how to use star charts and telescopes to explore the galaxy. Reservations need to be made ahead of time.

MacArthur on Ice
It's your last full week to go ice skating at the MacArthur Center. MacArthur on Ice is running every day through Jan.16. It costs $16 per person, but just $13 on Tuesdays.

Kite Festival: Basant
How about looking forward to the return of spring with an early kite-flying festival in Suffolk? This Saturday, Sleepy Hole Park is hosting Basant, a festival often celebrated in western India and Pakistan to welcome spring by flying thousands of kites. The festival runs from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and is completely free.

ODU vs. Coastal Carolina
If you are looking to catch a basketball game this week, Old Dominion University takes on Coastal Carolina Thursday, Jan. 12. The game starts at 7 p.m. at Chartway Arena. Tickets start at $18 a person.

Stargazing and Laser Show
How about exploring the great unknown? The Virginia Living Museum is hosting a stargazing night for all ages. For just $8 a person, you can explore the galaxy alongside a local astronomer. It's happening on Saturday at 6 p.m. There are also laser shows afterward for you and the family to attend.
