VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Kendrek Mallory woke up in the middle of the night to a notification on his phone.

There was no getting back to sleep for Mallory.

The notification told him he'd won $1 million in a Virginia Lottery game using his phone.

Mallory, of Virginia Beach, matched the first five numbers in the lottery's Cash4Life drawing on May 15.

"That gave him the choice of either $1,000 every week for the rest of his life or a one-time cash option of $1 million," Virginia Lottery officials said in a press release. "He chose the cash option."

“It’s unbelievable!” he said.
