Spud-tacular! North Carolina Potato Festival returns to Elizabeth City May 20-22

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. - If you love potatoes, you'll definitely find this event a-peel-ing! The North Carolina Potato Festival returns to Elizabeth City this weekend.

Northeast North Carolina's largest festival celebrates one of the region's largest crops: Potatoes!

Starting Friday, May 20, this fun, family-friendly event will line the streets of Downtown Elizabeth City with food, arts and crafts, contests, live entertainment and a Midway full of games and rides.

The Opening Ceremony will take place at 5:45 p.m. Friday. The Beer & Wine Garden will be open from 6-11 p.m. (Attendees must have an ID to get in.)

Then, on Saturday and Sunday, you can enjoy the following:

  • Street Fair
  • National Potato Peeling Contest
  • Free French fries (available Saturday from 10 a.m. while supplies last)
  • Auto and Motorcycle Show
  • Fun Run/Walk

Don't leave too early, or you could miss the U.S. Coast Guard's Search and Rescue demonstration over the Pasquotank River Sunday afternoon!

Below are the hours for this year's NC Potato Festival:

  • Friday, May 20 - 5-11 p.m.
  • Saturday, May 21 - 10 a.m. to 11 p.m.
  • Sunday, May 22 - 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

No animals are allowed within the festival area.

The following road closures in the area began Tuesday, May 17:

  • Water Street from Shepard Street to Ehringhaus Street
  • Ehringhaus Street eastbound from McMorrine Street to Water Street
  • Water Front Park, to include the parking lot
  • Dog Corner Park and boat ramp
