HAMPTON, Va. — A WWII veteran is celebrating her 103rd birthday!

On Friday, loved ones gathered at the Hampton VA to honor Beatrice Coleman. The celebration was organized by the Lorraine Bethea Hospice Foundation.

Coleman served in the U.S. Army as a Tech Five mail clerk and company clerk. She tells WTKR News 3 joining the Army when she was 21 allowed her to meet many people and travel to new places.

"I have met people from all over the world, and it's nice meeting them, nice seeing how they live and talk and everything else, and so it's really been a joy for me," she shared.

Coleman's daughter, Cheryl E. Brown, shared her secret to longevity: "She is just a hard worker, and she eats right and she does all the right things. So she's always done that her whole life."

Happy Birthday, Beatrice!
