HAMPTON ROADS, Va. - Chef Patrick helps us snack healthier and get a little extra vitamin C while social isolating.

VITAMIN SEA

It’s more important now than ever to get our Vitamin C.

Our Vitamin Sea a version of the classic Screwdriver cocktail. It gets a boost with a splash of orange liqueur, such as triple sec or Grand Marnier. Rim the glass with sea salt for an extra treat

Here’s how I make it:
In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, add 4 ounces orange or tangerine juice, 2 ounces vodka, and a splash of orange liqueur. Stain into a wine glass that has been rimmed with sea salt. Makes 1 cocktail.

If you’d like instructions on perfectly rimming a glass, email me at PatrickEvansHylton@gmail.com with “Glass Rimming” as the subject.

Our vodka comes from Chesapeake Bay Distillery, www.ChesapeakeBayDistillery.com

HEARTY + HEALTHY MUNCH MIX

Put away the unhealthy snacks during social distancing; our Hearty + Healthy Munch Mix is a better way to snack.

Just a handful of tasty ingredients come together quickly in this mix. Be sure to make extra and leave on neighbor’s front porch with a friendly note and recipe attached.

Here’s how I make it:

In a large bowl combine 4 cups popcorn (buy prepared or pop your own), 2 cups Virginia peanuts or you could add seeds like pumpkin or sunflower, 2 cups dried fruit such as dried cranberries or raisins, 2 cups dark chocolate morsels, and 2 cups of a healthy chip/pretzel such as beet chips or whole grain pretzels. Toss, season simply with sea salt if desired. Makes 6-10 servings.

I wrote a book titled “Popcorn” with 80-plus popcorn recipes and was on the Martha Stewart network nine times crafting select recipes. If you’d like five of my favorite recipes, email me at PatrickEvansHylton@gmail.com with “Popcorn Recipes” as the subject.

Some ingredients comes from The Fresh Market, www.TheFreshMarket.com

Peanuts today came from Belmont Peanuts, a member of Virginia’s Finest, www.vdacs.virginia.gov/vafinest.com/
