PORTSMOUTH, Va. - 14 people have been displaced after a fire in Portsmouth Monday afternoon.
Around 4:39 p.m., Portsmouth Fire Rescue and Emergency Services responded to a multi-family structure fire in the 1600 Block of Elm Ave.
When crews arrived they found flames and smoke coming from the roof of the home. Firefighters from Portsmouth and Navy Region Mid-Atlantic quickly brought the fire under control.
Officials say no injuries were reported from residents or firefighters on scene.
Although the fire was quickly extinguished, crews say they there was enough smoke and water damage to displace 14 residents. The Red Cross has been contacted to assist those with shelter.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
