2 Perquimans County Schools under modified lockdown after shots fired in area

HERTFORD, N.C. - Perquimans County Schools initiated a modified lockdown Wednesday after shots were fired in the area of two schools.

According to officials, around 11:46 am, the Perquimans 911 Center received a call for shots fired on King Street.

Hertford Police Department and the Perquimans Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene but were unable to locate a victim.

As a precautionary measure, Perquimans County Schools has initiated a modified lockdown for Perquimans County High School and Hertford Grammar School.

Hertford Police are currently investing the incident and ask that drivers to avoid traveling near the intersection of King Street and Covent Garden Street.
