NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Police are investigating after three people were shot on Tuesday night, killing one person and hospitalizing two.
The call came in to police around 10:43 p.m., from the 400 block of Logan Place.
When police arrived they located two victims who they say had non-life threatening injuries.
The two victims were taken to a local hospital for treatment. A short time later, police say they located a third victim who had died due to their gunshot injuries at the scene.
The victim has been identified as 25-year-old Davon Mathews, of the 700 block of 34th Street.
The preliminary investigation revealed the incident resulted from a home invasion. Shots were fired inside the residence, and the individuals were struck, reports say.
No further information is available at this time and the investigation remains ongoing.
