ISLE OF WIGHT, Va. - Virginia State Police are investigating a fatal single vehicle crash Monday afternoon.
State Police say the crash occurred around 1:30 p.m. in the westbound lanes of Route 460(Windsor Boulevard) east of Route 639 (Ecella Road).
According to police, 20-year-old Lavonta Jamal Johnson, driver of a 2008 Buick, was traveling in the westbound lanes of Route 460 at a high rate of speed when Johnson lost control, hydroplaned, ran off the roads striking a tree.
Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say he was not wearing a safety belt and it is unknown if alcohol was a contributing factor. A juvenile passenger suffered non-life threatening injuries and was taken to Norfolk Sentara Hospital.
