SUFFOLK, Va. - The 2020 Suffolk Holiday Parade, originally scheduled for December 12, 2020, has been canceled, Suffolk Parks and Recreation said in a release.

"While we remain under Governor Ralph Northam’s Executive Order, which continues to limit the number of individuals that can gather together in public settings and mandates the wearing of masks, unfortunately, we are required to re-evaluate large-scale gatherings including parades, festivals and similar events that we have traditionally enjoyed during the holiday season," said Tim Kelley, assistant director of media and community relations for the City of Suffolk.

In place of the parade, the Suffolk Festival of Lights, a free, drive-through holiday light display, will open November 20 at 5:30 p.m. and will run through December 30 at 9:30 p.m. According to the city, the event, held at Sleepy Hole Park, will feature over 35,000 bulbs.

The display will be closed Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
