3 suspects arrested in connection with Bertie Co. kidnapping, rape, assault

BERTIE Co., N.C. - Three men were arrested in connection with a reported kidnapping, assault and rape in Bertie County.

According to the Northampton County Sheriff's Office, on Friday, December 11, a 27-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman were kidnapped at gunpoint. They were taken to a location in Rich Square, North Carolina, where the man was assaulted by numerous armed subjects and the woman was physically assaulted and raped.

David Thompson, 32, was arrested and served with warrants for two counts of felony conspiracy, two counts of first-degree kidnapping and two counts of assault by pointing a gun.

Montavis Johnson, 27, was arrested and served with warrants for one count of first-degree forcible rape, two counts of first-degree kidnapping, three counts of felony conspiracy, one count of second-degree sex offense and one count of assault causing serious injury.

Willie Freeman, 40, was arrested in Virginia and is pending extradition back to North Carolina. He was served with warrants for two counts of communicating threats, two counts of assault by pointing a gun, two counts of first-degree kidnapping, three counts of felony conspiracy and one count of assault with a deadly weapon causing serious injury.

The investigation is ongoing, and more arrests and charges are expected to be made in the coming days.
