63-year-old Portsmouth man dies following crash in Suffolk

SUFFOLK, Va. - Suffolk Police and Suffolk Fire & Rescue responded to a single vehicle crash that lead to the death of a 63-year-old man.

Officials were contacted around 8 p.m. on Thursday, in regards to the crash that had taken place at the Route 64 off-ramp west at Bridge Road.

Reports say the driver received emergency medical assessment and treatment by Suffolk Fire & Rescue personnel and was ground transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The preliminary investigation determined that the passenger vehicle was traveling west when it ran off the roadway, struck a guardrail, and rolled over.

The victim has been identified as Timothy Fields, age 63, of Portsmouth.

The roadway was closed for several hours during the investigation and traffic was diverted to I-664 North and South. The investigation remains ongoing at this time.
