9 cases of coronavirus confirmed at Newport News Shipbuilding

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Three more Newport News Shipbuilding employees have tested positive for the novel coronavirus, bringing the shipyard's case total to nine.

According to a release from the shipyard, the three new cases were in a contractor at an off-yard office on 39th Street and Marshall Avenue, an employee on the USS George Washington (CVN 73) with space number 7-84-0-M and an employee in the mid-yard.

The contractor's last time at Newport News Shipbuilding was March 26, while the USS George Washington employee and mid-yard employee last reported to the shipyard on March 30.

The off-yard contractor worked in Building 600-2, which is where one of the shipyard's first cases of coronavirus was confirmed.
