NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Newport News Police is investigating a double shooting that took place Sunday afternoon.

Officials say around 3:41 p.m., police responded to the 11100 block of Jefferson Avenue for a reported shooting.

When officers arrived they found two male victims who were shot. They were both taken to a local hospital.

Police says one person has injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening, and the other had injuries that were possibly life-threatening.

On Monday officials said the man taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, 25-year-old Jordan Artis-Square, has died at the hospital.

According to the preliminary investigation, the two males were involved in some sort of altercation with other individuals near an apartment complex on Mintwood Place.

At some point, shots were fired, striking the two people. One of the victims walked to a nearby service station where police made contact with him, according to officials.
