CHESAPEAKE, Va. - An AMBER alert was issued Wednesday morning after a vehicle was stolen with an infant inside of it.

Police were called to the 3400 block of Western Branch Boulevard around 6:30 a.m., in reference to the stolen vehicle that had a 3-month-old child inside at the time of the theft.

The victim was a 3-month-old baby girl who police said was safely located around 9 a.m.

Police said she was located abandoned in an apartment complex in the 1600 block of West Little Creek in Road in Norfolk and added that she appears to be unharmed. She was taken to a local hospital for precautionary measures.

Police say they found the stolen vehicle in the 400 block of Timothy Ave in Norfolk. Detectives say they are currently processing the vehicle for any evidence.

The suspect was a black male who was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, black jeans and white sneakers, according to police. There is no further information on the suspect.

Chesapeake Police said they believe this to be a random crime of opportunity as the suspect arrived in another stolen vehicle before this crime. They also said its possible the suspect didn’t know the baby was in the car.
