FORT MONROE, Va. - Several people and organizations will commemorate the first African slaves that landed in Hampton Roads in 1619 on Saturday, but 2020 will mark the first time the event will be held entirely online.

The event is called The Commemoration of The First African Slaves. Roughly 20 African slaves were brought over on an English ship called the White Lion.

Among the performers will be Voices Of Service, a group featured on "America's Got Talent."

The commemoration will feature speakers and performances and will be live-streamed on the event's Facebook page starting at 10 a.m.

Following the commemoration, at 2 p.m., the public is also invited to participate in the virtual town hall Lift Your Voice: 1619 and the Power of Collaboration.
