NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Daniel Day fought back tears as he received the keys to his new mortgage-free home on Thursday morning.

Day and his two children are the newest residents of Newport News, and are receiving the home through a partnership with Bank of America and the Military Warriors Support Foundation.

Day is an Army veteran who says he's been living in Petersburg, but is excited to move to the Peninsula.

"To me this means final stability. I mean, everyone fights for what they have in the world today, and every once in a while you see a family was fighting, but they're just spinning their wheels. That's where I was," he said. "It was an amazing opportunity."

Day also said he plans to involve himself and his children in charity work, and will continue working on finishing his bachelor's degree.

The home came fully furnished, renovated and complete with a full pantry from Lidl.
