Body of man found after vehicle submerged in water in Hampton

HAMPTON, Va. - The Hampton Public Safety Dive Team was on scene for a submerged vehicle in the area of Freeman Drive and North Armistead Avenue on Friday around 6:30 a.m.

The preliminary investigation has revealed that a vehicle exited the roadway, struck a light pole, and continued into a nearby body of water.

One occupant was able to exit the vehicle and make it safely to shore. A second occupant was found to be deceased in the water.

He was recovered by members of the Hampton Public Safety Dive Team.

The victim has been identified as Drew Halsey, a 21-year-old Maryland man.

The circumstances surrounding this incident remain under investigation and there is no additional information to release at this time.
