NORFOLK, Va. – Detectives are investigating an overnight shooting in Campostella that left one teenage boy dead, and two others injured.

On Thursday around 8 p.m., dispatchers got a call about a gunshot disturbance in the 400 block of Campostella Road. When officers arrived on-scene they found three teenagers who were all suffering from gunshot wounds.

A 16-year-old male was taken to the Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with life-threatening injuries. He later died, according to police.

Two other boys, a 15-year-old and a 14-year-old, were both taken to the hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Police said they are expected to recover.

Shelia Green lives nearby and says she heard four gunshots ring out while ducking to the ground. She fears for her own girls who are just a few years younger than the victim.

"I just never thought it would happen in my neighborhood. I really didn’t. I’ve heard gunshots before but never this close," said Green.

There have been at least five separate shootings in the city since June where five teenagers and two children were injured; three of those shootings happening in the last three-and-a-half weeks have left three teens dead.

"It makes me sad really because what can you do? What actually can you do? So I try to keep my girls close . I try to keep them safea nd I stay in prayer. I just hope that something can be done," said Green.
