Chesapeake doctor pleads guilty to unlawful drug distribution

CHESAPEAKE, Va. - A local doctor pleaded guilty Monday, August 10 to distributing drugs to friends and family.

Lupito Bugarin, 65, owned a medical practice in Chesapeake. According to court documents, between 2016 and 2019, he wrote prescriptions, including for Schedule II controlled substances, without performing an exam or even meeting with patients.

Documents show he also wrote prescriptions for Oxycodone and Adderall under multiple names and gave them to a single patient.

Bugarin faces a maximum penalty of 20 years when sentenced.
