GILES COUNTY, Va. - State Police are investigating a sing-vehicle-crash that killed a Chesapeake man and seriously injured a Chesapeake woman Monday evening in Giles County.

The crash took place at 6:51 p.m. on Route 635 (Big Stoney Creek Road), about 2 miles north of Route 628 (Olean Road).

68-year-old Russell M. Schucker, was driving a 2003 Ford Econoline van on Route 635 when it ran off the right side of the road and struck an embankment before overturning and coming to rest on its side back in the road.

Police say Schucker was taken to Carilion Giles Community Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

The passenger of the vehicle, 54-year-old Suzanne M. Schucker, of Chesapeake, was also taken to Carilion Giles Community Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

Both occupants were not wearing a seat belt and alcohol was not a factor, police say.
