JAMES CITY CO., Va. - James City County announced Wednesday that construction has began for a new wedding, event and retreat venue.

The Maine will be 9,000 square feet of indoor space on a 20 acre parcel, located at 2580 John Tyler Highway.

It is scheduled to open in 2021 and is now accepting bookings.

“I am excited for The Maine to begin construction and then open in the Berkeley District,” said Supervisor Ruth Larson. “The addition of a new multipurpose event venue will contribute positively to our local economy.”

The Maine is set to feature a grand hall with a wood-burning fireplace, outdoor veranda, sunroom with a 1,500 square foot covered patio as well as a warming kitchen and audio-visual equipment for use.

Two separate dressing suites will be available for weddings.

All indoor space will be climate controlled for year-round events and the capacity will total 300 including event staff.

The Maine represents an estimated investment of $2 million dollars and will receive incentives from the James City County Tourism Zone including permit fee waivers and incremental grants following completion of their project.

The Maine is the first project to utilize incentives from the Tourism Zone, which was adopted in 2012.
