Bertie County Schools report 4 teachers, 2 bus drivers test positive for COVID-19

BERTIE COUNTY, N.C. - Bertie County Schools have reported six positive cases of COVID-19.

Superintendent, Dr. Otis Smallwood confirmed that 6 employees at Bertie County Schools tested positive for COVID-19. Officials say all cases were confirmed as occurring outside of school and not caught within schools.

Smallwood says the cases include 2 bus drivers and 4 teachers. Windsor Elementary School, Bertie Middle and High School, and Bertie Early College High School each reported one teacher with COVID-19.

According to Smallwood, employees who tested positive are in quarantine and most are coming to the end of the recommended quarantine period of 14 days.

Officials say deep cleaning and sanitation has been completed at all schools out of precaution.

Staff are required to wear masks in the buildings and are screened as they enter building for temperature checks.

Bertie County Schools students are currently under remote instruction, but teachers are currently in the building.
